Advanced Course on NTMs for West African Stakeholders

Objective:
The objective of the course on Non-tariff Measures and Data Collection is to increase the understanding of the International Classification of NTMs and the collection of NTM data.
The course is structured as follows:
Module 1: Introduction to NTMs and data collection
Module 2A and 2B: Classification of NTMs
Module 3: Product classification
Module 4: Guidelines for the collection of data on official NTMs
Please note that in order to successfully complete course activities, participants should plan to dedicate at least 10 hours per week throughout the duration of the seven-week course.
Audience:
The course targets two specialized audiences:
Data collectors directly working with NTMs.
- Government officials, researchers and representatives of the private sector who want to strengthen their understanding of NTMs, use NTM data, and/or who are or may be involved in the design or negotiation of policies related to NTMs.

Argentina 2022

The UNCTAD secretariat is pleased to announce that the next regional course on key issues on the international economic agenda, which is designed for economies in Latin America and the Caribbean, will be hosted by the School of Economics, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The course will be held from 27 June to 8 July 2022.
The course will focus on the links between trade, investment, finance and development, including in the context of the global pandemic and responses to shocks. Its aims are as follows:
- To enhance understanding of the relationship between trade, investment, finance and development and their links to country development strategies and building resilience.
- To enhance understanding of current economic debates, the economic impact of the pandemic, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the implications for policymakers in developing countries.
- To provide participants with knowledge and skills that will prepare them for negotiations, as well as to design and implement trade and development policies. These tools are designed to meet the needs and interests of their countries.
Azerbaijan 2010

The UNCTAD secretariat is pleased to announce the 19th regional course at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy in Baku, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It will take place from 19 July to 6 August 2010. The course will be delivered by UNCTAD experts, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and national experts from Azerbaijan. Trade policy officials and academics in the region are invited to participate in this course.
Bahrain 2008

The UNCTAD secretariat is pleased to announce that the next regional training course on key issues on the international economic agenda for Western Asia will take place from 26 October to 13 November 2008 in Manama, Bahrain. It will be held with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Bahrain.
The course will focus on the links between trade, investment, finance and development, including in the context of international trade negotiations. Its aims are:
- To enhance the understanding of the interrelationships among these areas and their link to countries’ development strategies; and
- To provide participants with knowledge and skills for the design and implementation of trade and development policies, as well as for trade negotiations corresponding to the needs and interests of their countries.
The course syllabus will draw on UNCTAD’s analytical work and the lessons learned from its technical cooperation activities, with input from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, as well as regional and national experts.
The course is mainly aimed at government officials in ministries and institutions dealing with trade, investment, finance and development issues, and involved in formulating and implementing national trade and development policies. Academics from research institutions and universities working on international economic issues are also encouraged to apply.
Belarus 2008

Chile 2003

Government officials and academics from the Latin American region are being trained in the use of multidisciplinary approaches to trade and development issues in Santiago from 31 March to 11 April. The regional training course on "Key Issues on the International Economic Agenda" is being organized jointly by UNCTAD and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), which is hosting the event.
The linkages between trade, investment and development; their implications for integrated development strategies; and national experiences with trade and development policies for countries in the region will be explored. The course syllabus has been designed to draw on UNCTAD´s expertise on trade and development policies, financial flows and macroeconomic management, investment and technology, trade facilitation measures and electronic commerce and development. Participants will be familiarized with the analytical and research work of both UNCTAD and ECLAC.
The course is part of a series mandated by the Bangkok Plan of Action adopted at UNCTAD X in February 2000. At that meeting, UNCTAD was requested to strengthen the understanding of decision makers from developing countries of key development issues on the international economic agenda that fell within UNCTAD´s field of competence. The first regional course was organized jointly in Bangkok by UNCTAD and the Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in November 2002. Two other regional courses are planned for this year, one in conjunction with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and the other with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in Beirut, Lebanon.
