The UNCTAD secretariat is pleased to announce that the next regional course on key issues on the international economic agenda, which is designed for countries in the Middle East and North Africa, will be hosted by the Institute for Diplomatic Studies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt. The course will be held from 25 November to 6 December 2018.
The course will focus on the links between trade, investment, finance and development, including in the context of international trade negotiations. Its aims are as follows:
(a) To enhance understanding of the relationship between these areas and their link to country
development strategies;
(b) To provide participants with knowledge and skills that will prepare them for trade
negotiations, as well as to design and implement trade and development policies. These
tools are designed to meet the needs and interests of their countries.
The syllabus will draw on the perspective of UNCTAD, its analytical work and lessons learned from its technical cooperation activities, and will be enriched by the competence and expertise of representatives of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. Experts from Egypt will share national experiences in promoting and managing trade, investment, finance and development.
The course is aimed primarily at mid-level government officials in ministries and institutions dealing with trade, investment, finance, technology and development issues, who are involved in the formulation and implementation of national trade and development policies. Depending on the availability of places, other applicants, such as university academics, may be considered.

The UNCTAD secretariat is pleased to announce that the next regional course on key issues on the international economic agenda, which is designed for countries of Eastern Europe, will be hosted by the Faculty of Economics, Saints Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia. The course will be held from 3 to 14 July 2023.
The course will focus on the links between trade, investment, finance and development, including in the context of international trade negotiations. Its aims are as follows:
- To enhance understanding of the relationship between these areas and their link to country development strategies;
- To provide participants with knowledge and skills that will prepare them for trade negotiations, as well as to design and implement trade and development policies. These tools are designed to meet the needs and interests of their countries.

The UNCTAD secretariat is pleased to announce that the next regional course on key issues on the international economic agenda, which is designed for economies in the Middle East and North Africa, will be hosted by the Institute for Diplomatic Studies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt. The course will be held from 26 November to 7 December 2023.
The course will focus on the links between trade, investment, finance and development, including in the context of the global pandemic and responses to shocks. Its aims are as follows:
- To enhance understanding of the relationship between trade, investment, finance and development and their links to country development strategies and building resilience;
- To enhance understanding of current economic debates, the post-pandemic recovery, the Sustainable Development Goals and the implications for policymakers in developing countries;
- To provide participants with knowledge and skills that will prepare them for negotiations, as well as to design and implement trade and development policies. These tools are designed to meet the needs and interests of their countries.
The syllabus will draw on the perspective of UNCTAD, analytical work and lessons learned from technical cooperation activities, and will be enriched by the competence and expertise of representatives of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. Experts from Egypt will share national experiences in promoting and managing trade, investment, finance and development and policies formulated in response to the global pandemic.
Executive course on Non-Tariff Measures
Objective:
The executive online course on NTMs is an easy, concise but comprehensive introductory course. It serves as a starting point of obtaining knowledge of NTMs and offers an overview of UNCTAD’s work on this topic. Through the course, audience will be able to understand (1) what NTMs are and why they are important, (2) the effects of NTMs, (3) how UNCTAD works on NTMs.
Audience:
Targeted audience is policymakers and researchers such as senior government officials, NTM focal points and trade researchers.
Prerequisite:
Internet connection is required as the multimedia lecture and assessment test are run entirely from the course website.
Grading and certificate
A certificate will be issued to participants upon their completion of the multimedia lecture and course evaluation, as well as their success in the assessment test at the end of the course.

The UNCTAD secretariat is pleased to announce the 18th regional course at the NAM Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation in Jakarta, Indonesia with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. It will take place from 2-20 November 2009.
The course will be delivered by UNCTAD experts, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and national experts from Indonesia. Trade policy officials and academics in the region are invited to participate in this course.
