Randa A. Jamal, Economic Affairs Officer, is currently the Chief of the Policy Capacity Building Section/P166 programme in the Technology, Innovation and Knowledge Development Branch-DTL of UNCTAD. Throughout her career, her interests have revolved around investing in human capital to realize stronger public institutions and strengthening policy formulation to mitigate socio-economic inequalities. During her career at the UN, Ms. Jamal has focused on development and human rights through tangible and purposeful measures. She has published widely articles dealing with various topics, such as, on poverty, role of institutions, UN programmes and their impact, among others, and contributed research to the UNDP Arab Human Development Reports earlier series. Ms. Jamal began her career with the UNDP in HQ in 2003, as a Programme Analyst; subsequently she worked with several NGOs and international organizations. Her roles at the United Nations include working as an Economic Affairs Officer with the Division on Globalization and Development Strategies in UNCTAD, Political Affairs Officer with the UN Secretary-General Special Envoy for Libya and UNSMIL, and at UNAMI, in Baghdad, among others. Ms. Jamal earned her M.A degree of International Affairs, with a specialisation in International Economic and Political Development, from Columbia University in the City of New York. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Manchester University. She also studied at Birzeit University in Palestine, where she grew up. She is Palestinian by origin and currently resides and works in Geneva. | Khaled Gaafar is well-versed in various aspects of the UN system. Prior to joining UNCTAD, he worked at the UN Department of Public Information and the UNOG Central Support Services. He joined the P166 program in January 2013 where he provides support in the fields of administration, IT and research. Khaled holds a B.A. in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (University of Geneva, Switzerland) and B.A. in English Literature (University of Ein Shams, Cairo, Egypt). Khaled is bi-national, Egyptian and Swiss. | |
Zhiliang Yu - Associate Information Management Officer | ||
Zhiliang is a staff member at Policy Capacity Building Section/KDB/DTL/UNCTAD. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Tianjin University in China and master’s degree in Information Management from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in the USA. His specialized area is information management and systems, and his interest lies in utilizing technologies to leverage institutional resources and improve efficiency. Throughout his career, for the UN departments in both New York and Geneva (DGACM, DESA, UNODA, OLA, CTED, DGC, UNCTAD), he participated in various projects, such as e-Doc at DGACM, Counter-Terrorism Committee Detailed Implementation Assessment (DIS) project, UNCTAD Flagship Paragraph 166 programme, etc. In addition, he collected and analyzed data using database management systems and business intelligence platform. Moreover, he liaised with and provided support to member States’ policymakers and Geneva-based delegates and collaborated with stakeholders and external vendors on project management and budget related items. |
